I want to change the kitchen floor, and I was wondering what is the less costly yet best looking idea for the floor: I just moved and it now looks like it has a one-sheet fake vinyl covering, but I want to change it for tile-looking design.
Also, would you use the same idea for the bathroom? This one looks to be tiles, but not not ceramic.

You could go with wood or ceramic floor in the kitchen and you would have to do some leg work and go to compare prices on how much it will cost. There are so many different types of wood and ceramic and it is difficult to give you an answer on which idea would be less costly because its all about personal likes and dislikes and so forth.
But I can tell you that lately a lot of people are going with wood floors in their kitchens, but others say its not practical because most people are always dropping something on the floor and the wood can damage easier than tiles, so there it is.
Tiles in the bathroom for sure !
And whatever you choose, try to remove the old floor right down to the builders plywood, this way you can re-inforce the floor if their is any squeaking or just put a few extra screws in the floor for future prevention of squeakiness !

Do you own the house? If you're renting, you'll have to get the landlord's permission to make a change like this.

I prefer the one-sheet vinyl because it doesn't get crud stuck in the seams, but the 12" square tiles are easy to lay. If there's only one layer of flooring down now, you can lay the new stuff on top.

If you're doing it yourself, definitely use vinyl tiles. Vacuum the place you're going to put each individual tile just before you put it down or you'll have rocks underneath.
