im pretty sure you cant, but you can just go from your proxy on your computer, to another proxy server, that way you cant be detected or found, thats what hackers do, lol

I don't think it's possible to make your IP address invisible because that's how other computers know how to talk to your computer. And by surfing the net, your computer is sending out requests (to show websites, etc.) and the web servers then send you back those websites.
Having an invisible IP address is like not having an address for your house... no one would know how to get mail to you.
But there are ways of hiding your real IP address by using a proxy server. All of your traffic will come and go through the proxy server so that only it knows your real IP (and can deliver webpages back to you) but all of the sites and wherever you surf won't know your real IP.
Check out the link about surfing anonymously below.
Although they don't mention it in the article, my biggest fear about using a proxy server on the web is that all of your data passes through their server... so all of your passwords, credit card info, and everything else could potentially be stored by their servers too. So if they aren't totally legit, they could do some bad things. And even though they probably are legit, I don't trust them enough so I've never used a proxy server or anonymizer.

There aren't any negatives to your IP address being hidden- unless you wanted to receive a direct IP connection from another computer (for example, using PCAnywhere or playing some sort of IP-based game)
You could use any number of proxy services, try searching on anonymizer for starters.

It depends on what you mean by hide. If you mean stop websites from logging your IP, you can't unless you use an anonymous proxy (I'm not sure the proper term for this).
If you mean, make it so your computer doesn't show up to scans from the big bad internet, sure you can do that with a firewall. It's definitely worth having a firewall. Note, if you already have a router between your computer and the internet connection, it is already doing the job of firewall for inbound traffic.

If you're really worried about privacy, use tor. Tor encrypts and bounces your packets through a bunch of different computers so it is very difficult to trace. The downside is that your conneciton will be slowers.
