Ice sledge hockey follows all the International Ice Hockey Federation rules, with a few small modifications. Instead of standing on skates, players sit on aluminum or steel sledges fitted with two blades. They grip two double-ended sticks, one in each hand. One end of the stick has a sharp pick that the players use to propel the sledge, the other has a curved blade to pass and shoot the puck.

The Paralympics mirror the Olympics by year and City. Thus taking advantage of all facilities being available. They are usually a couple weeks latter.

Vancouver Olympics - Feb 12- 28, 2010.
Paralympics - March 12-21.

So your venue must be being used for something else during the main Olympics.

Is it UBC Winter Sports Centre? It will be used for Men's and Women's Ice Hockey during the Olympics

I was in Vancouver for the world Jr's in January. I was lucky that the Canadian Sledge hockey team was in my hotel. They had some games against the US. Having met them, they are handicapped, but they were not a majority amputees. Most could walk, but usually with a permanent limp. Many in wheelchairs. They told me that those in wheelchairs and amputees had and advantage as they had natural upper body strength due to more day to day use of their arms. And not having legs in their way on the sledge.
