Having lived through less-than-perfect teen years like most adults, I've tried to answer a lot of relationship related questions from teens (having teen daughters myself).

However, in a majority of cases, the total lack of communication skills and grammar makes the question completely unintelligible - the asker seems to just babble on about something that is making them miserable, yet cannot translate thought to written word with any competence whatsoever!

Am I just a bright geek who grew into an intelligent man that can't "speak the language of kids today", or have some parents gotten so slack that their kids are becoming adults with a 3rd grade understanding of society and culture?

Then again, I guess the "smart, well adjusted kids" are doing better things with themselves than looking for personal advice online from strangers...

Opinions?

Hi. You know, I slightly agree with you on some parts. Kids today can sound quite ignorant at times. But on the other hand I don't think ignorance is the true case. Children try so hard to fit in with their piers that they try to exude a care free attitude. Sometimes the carefree part goes alittle to far, which in the end, is their undoing. If on never tries to correct themselves early on, it sticks forever. Then it will eventually equivalate to your children taking on the same problem. Vicious cycle. Another thing that I have noticed are some of their questions are getting dumber. I began to check the individuals ages if I was able. Usually, the younger the kid, the dumber the question will sound to someone older. I've noticed alot of relationship and sex questions from teens who just don't know any better. They are to embarrassed to talk to their parents, and their friends are not any more educated on these things than they are. Sometimes it is alot easier to skip embarrassement by asking the advice from strangers that you will never have to meet face to face. I try and talk with my teen about things but I'm glad that their is someplace she can go if she has a question that she may be to embarrassed to bring up to her old mom.

The biggest problem today is the kids are way too lazy. They have everything very easy compared to when we were young. The kids today don't have to walk to a phone to make a call when their car breaks down, they have a cell. They don't have to actually THINK because our computers do it for them. Video games, either TV or computer, are making our kids lazy and seemingly more stupid. I don't know how you were raised, but I come from a poor family and was never able to have 'what the other kids' had. Keeping up with the Jones's was not in our thoughts.
Kids today are not forced to work and buy their own cars, clothes, cell phones, computers. It's all "given" to them. They don't know about work ethic or even having enough responsibility to have a job, much less keep it.
Our teens today are a lazy bunch and the thing that is scary, they are our future.

both. We are all getting older, and, sadly, kids are getting more stupid everyday. The big problem here is that when the kids of this generation get into the real world most of them are gonna be COMPLETE LOSERS who cannot see the difference between right or wrong, unable to sustain a monogamous relationship, and bringing up kids which will be even more stupid than they were. It´s time for a change. Parents need to get in charge of their kids and teach them some responsability about their actions.

It is not that you are old. Today's kids are not like we were at their age. They are bolder and more apt to do things that are far worse then we ever did. If you are more Involved with your kids they will grow up smart. There are allot of absentee parents which means there are allot of out of control kids out there. It is not that they are stupid it is that they were never taught how to respect themselves or others. Okay so maybe we are old and don't understand kids today but that is my view of today's kids!!

I agree with you about how bad lots of these questions and answers are. But don't worry, we're not all idiots. I go on here during my lunch hour, hoping to help people if I can. There are a lot of stupid questions/answers floating around, but some of us are serious. :)
