Im familiar with the usage of Remote Desktop for Windows 2K and up. What I would like to know is the technology behind it. How does it acheive its terrific speeds and visual quality? Is there a book, white paper, or something i can refer to to get insight into how this is accomplished? My guess is LogMeIn.com and others take advantage of this built in OS ability.

Thanks

Thanks for the response so far. But im familar with socke programming but that doesnt explain hoiw MS is able to haul thousands of pixels per second to me without the slightest hiccup. What form of efficency are they employing to achieve their remote fluidity? Are they sending over commands rather than bitmap snapshots? Are they creating objects?

The Microsoft site listed below. It shows you how to setup the client, host and has links for software downloads if needed.

The basic idea behind it is offcourse Socket Programming and Some Process and Threading Programming.

First try to work on some RFC's for some protocols like SMTP, POP for simpler data access (www.faqs.org)

Then create simple Chatting application, File Transfer Application etc.

You are Done.
