My son is GATE and the GATE teacher is not the GATE teacher, what is more important, being in a class with other GATE kids or being with a teacher that might better deal with his emotional issues. Not to say the GATE teacher is better, just better suited. I am at a loss. Every parent wants their child to have all that is available to him/her. Not sure if the choice to be with best friend in the GATE class is a better choice. Opinions welcome.

GATE or the Gifted and Talented Education program is design for children who have shown they are advanced in some areas beyond their peers. I am a little lost with your GATE teacher who is not the GATE teacher, but as to the program. I was both a GATE student and have taught GATE. The classes will move faster than the regular program and should be of greater depth. The work should be more complex rather than just more work. I would not base my child's future on being with a friend because classes shift every year. If he is up to it GATE is a great opportunity.
