Then wouldn't America have fallen between 1890-1910 when immigration was also very high?

First off...all empires or large powers or powers or anything you want to call it FALL!!! The idea is to be able to predict the reason. Rome DID NOT fall because people didn't defend it, it fell firstly because of the corruption of it's system and secondly from the force and power of the Barbarians that always threatened the vast Roman Empire. It is normal for these empires to fall apart from the inside and that is exactly what will happen to the Americans. Corruption...how much money is given to the American government by the Arabs? Now compare that to the amount they get from taxes...in other words 'Who's your daddy?'!! Also, if America had the power it once had would the Israelis attack Lebanon by killing so many defenseless people?!! And where do you think Israel got all those F-15 airplanes? Duh!!! In other words at least two nations have the USA by the leash and how long will it take for the Chinese to come to power? I wonder?

I do not believe that will the reason we will fall the same way the Roman Empire did, if indeed we do fall.
The reason we have the problems we have today in America is the apathy of the people. We have become so self-absorbed in our own little lives that anything that interrupts our time in front of the television, or rollerblading, or rockclimbing, or computertime is not going to be anything we will deal with.
We are letting our senior generation choose our lawmakers because no one votes. Not in the state I live in anyway.
The average turn out to the polls is around 25 percent on any election! That is astounding to other countries who have not the right to say anything about what their government places upon their shoulders.
I do vote. I also when someone starts to complain about the state of the US and its elected officials, I ask did they vote. If the answer if no, I very politely and with much firmness tell them to shut their mouth. If they are not going to get off their lazy hind ends and get out and spend the 15 minutes it takes to get to their polling place and spend the 5 minutes or less it takes to make their opinion count, do not complain about what they get.

The American Empire has peaked and sadly those in power are to greedy and power happy to realize it. Instead of trying to build the country up, they are selling it off piecemeal to other interests for the enrichment of the wealthy. Also the fact that there is no opposition to the Right wing of politics. The Dems. are just a shade left, but still serve the Corp. world & wealthy. They are just better at tricking the poor & working class into supporting them. The only chance is for Americans to overcome their fear of Socialism. I do not mean to form the government but to act on behalf of the poor and working as the opposition. May God bless and help America to find the courage to rebuild the nation from within.

America will fall like Rome but not because of immigration.

This country has become sick with perverts, child molesters, and pedofiles. There are many twisted minds out there.

All of these so called people need to be rounded up and sent to prison. Big Bubba is waiting for them.

America is headed in the same direction as the Greek and Roman empires because of our own hubris, avarice, arrogance and selfish gluttony. We refuse to share our wealth with the rest of the world (we're 5% of the population, yet use 55% of the world's resources). We abuse the environment; refuse to protect or preserve the fragile ecological balance between man, plants and animals; tolerate corrupt and immoral conduct; swim in a cesspool of debauchery and valueless high living; waste precious assets on insane self-gratification; bully the rest of the world into letting us have our way; and twaddle away our lives on such inane concerns as Britney Spears' love life and the rocky marriages of movie stars. We're no more civilized than the decadent Greeks and Romans, and - just as Nero fiddled while Rome burned - we will also fall victim to our own greed and corruption. -RKO-

I would like to think that isnt going to happen. History does have a way of repeating itself. However our current situation is driven by greed only. Cheap labor means higher profits. I dont agree with that but its whats going on. The illegal immigrants will become the new middle class. Keep in mind Republicans dont do anything unless theres a dollar attached to it. At least the Democrats share the wealth as they rob you.

The immigrants are only a symptom.

The same group of people that is responsible for the fall of Rome are Responsible for the fall of the USA.
As they have been everywhere throughout history.

BONDAGE TO APATHY

About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million; Bush: 143 million;
Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000
States won by: Gore: 19 Bush: 29
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Gore: 13.2 Bush: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens. Gore's territory encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and others also living off government welfare..." Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency & apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with near 40 percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

Absolutely! It's just a matter of time and a system of weak individuals being elected by allowing this to happen. I don't know of any "career politican" that has ever done the "right thing" only the "popular thing".

That is not why Rome fell.....they fell due to the fact they separated powers, East and West, then started waring between each other...that weakened then, and then invaders came in and took over areas.........now, the same thing is happening now....but not due to immigration........and yes, it could be the fall eventually
