When it comes to cleaning suede footwear, the old adage "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" definitely applies.
Treating your suede or nubuck shoes with a protective spray or finish will help to repel water and prevent stains. If that ship has already sailed, at least you'll know for future reference to protect before wearing.
In the meantime, here are some tips for cleaning suede shoes and boots after stains have already set.
Remember to first test any treatment or product on a small inconspicuous area before tackling a large stain, and only use products designed specifically for the material of your footwear (suede, nubuck, smooth leather, etc.).
For heavy stains on suede footwear, use a suede cleaning block (also called a suede eraser).
These products will crumble as you rub them across the surface of the footwear, and are great for removing even deeply embedded dirt.
After cleaning, the nap of your suede can be restored by using a suede brush. The bristles of suede brushes are usually made from brass, and often you can find both the cleaning block and the brush in one kit.
Joe's Shoe Service is a great source for lots of suede cleaning and care products, and they're all very reasonably priced. Alternatively, your local shoe repair shop might offer many of the same items.

If they are soiled, try to find a suede cleaner. Brush them with a suede brush first to remove any large particles then follow the instructions.
If you wore them and they got wet due to the rain, just wait until they dry and brush them.
If they're a light color, you may want to get them cleaned professionally by a shoe maker or have him dye them a darker color to hide the stains.
Otherwise, I have no idea. Suede shoes look great but their a royal pain in the butt to clean.

If it is not matted, use a tooth brush that is clean and dry! Just brushing in a light motion in different directions will make a big difference. Then if needed, using great care, a baby wet one lightly brushed over any marks will remove most. If not, and it is matted, then use the tooth brush again, by dipping LIGHTLY into a small lid of water, brush with finger to remove most of the water, the brush the shoe. Do not "soak" the suede! It is best if more cleaning is needed, to let them dry in between. If severe, after dry brushing, use the vac to suck off dirt to avoid making mud.

Hmmmmm, well I think it depends on what you're trying to clean off. There is a spray to clean suede or use a moist clean cloth to wipe them down or brush them with a soft bristle brush.
