what novel or do you recommend as a preparation for the SAT writing and critical reading sections?

please don't tell me take courses or preparation books because I'm already doing that, I'm just looking for a novel or a magazine that would be useful.

I meant what novel do you recommend not what novel or do you recommend :)

you can google the sat's and find the right material to prep for the material. I have done so for my daughter. Many sites, just need to find one to fit your needs on how you study.

Actually, I would have told you that "last minute" test prep isn't nearly as good as spending your entire childhood reading to do well on the verbal portion of the SAT. However, there are novels that are written that are specifically intended to help prepare you, such as "Tooth and Nail: A Novel Approach to the New SAT" by Charles Harrington Elster. Do a search on Amazon for "SAT novel" and you'll see more books that are like this. Good luck.

If you can get your hands on any of these books:
Oliver Twist
Madame Bovary
Lord of the Flies
They will help you develop not only your reading and vocabulary skill, they will also sharpen your ability to think critically.
You can also look at some issues of National Geographic or Popular Science.
I use materials from these to develop curriculum for SAT classes. Good luck in your test.

I took the SAT's and don't really see how any particular novel could help you out. They don't ask any literary questions. That's more of an AP test thing.
Just keep doing what you're doing and you should be fine.
