How difficult is it to connect to iTunes? I have so many albums in my iTunes, and many of them, I don't listen to that often, so why should they be slowing down my computer. But how hard is it to connect the drive to iTunes? In other words, how do you find things that are in your drive? Obviously, I'm not computer whizz. (I've got a Mac, by the way). Also, which size would you suggest? 160? 250?

First, the number of files on your hard drive will not slow it down, unless you are out of disk space, or the drive has become heavily fragmented.

That being said, drive space is cheap, and a good way to backup your data. If you are not using over 80% of your disk space, and want to buy an external drive, (you can get 250 gig for under $200), go for it. Then if either drive fails, you will have the copy.

I would suggest you purchase 250 considering you have a lot of albums. It's not that easy relocating iTunes music though. It's not really hard. Most drives are plugged into your USB, and there's no set up. I would suggest relocating the entire iTunes folder to the external drive. Then select all the songs in iTunes and deleted them all (Edit>clear). Then, go to the new iTunes folder and open every song. Perhaps there is a better way, but should you choose to do it the way I have said, you should contact me for more specific instructions.

I recently bought an external hard drive and they're great. It shows up as drive F in MY Computer (I have a PC, not too familiar with Macs sorry) and there's my internal harddrive C with like everything on and then the F. At the moment I've just put a load of files on there, but there's nothing to stop you installing programs on to it and MP3/other music files. An average MP3 (music) file is about 3mb and 1 GB=1024mb. So a 160gb like mine would hold approximately 54,000 songs. ;)

1. Connect the external HD to your Mac's USB port.
2. Move your entire music folder to the external HD.
3. Delete all the music from your iTunes library(remove them from the library only, do NOT delete them from the computer).
4. Re-add your songs into iTunes after your music has been completely transferred into the external HD.
