It has a pretty large market, but I think it might be more evenly divided between contemporary country and this new wave of college radio fluff that's been spewing out everywhere. I think Hip-Hop seems like it has taken over because of certain factors, one of the most obvious being it's kind of like a standard in automobiles. It seems like 8 out of 10 cars have hip-hop blasting.... You don't hear too many other genres being played really. Can't tell if this is a good thing or not because there's good hip-hop out there but there's probably more bad hip-hop, which ironically is the type being thumped from a lot of trunks these days.

It's currently the most marketed and seemingly popular form of music right now. A whole culture has grown up around it. It's often emulated. Corporations have been quick to take advantage of this by using hip hop to sell their products (like through advertsiement.)

Personally, I don't like the music. Most of the time, it's not melodic enough. I hope this craze dies down and we see an awesome new musical genre rise up or we see the return of Rock music. I see hip hop as the disco of our generation.

I don't consider that down south crap Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop to me is music that does more than talk about gold grills, 24 inch rims etc. What I think has happened to Hip-Hop is that is has become too easy to make money of it. That is why we have those here today, gone today artists.

Only in some bizarre universe where hip-hop is considered "music."

If Rap is Tourette's syndrome with a beat,
Hip-Hop is stuttering set to stolen sound-bytes
From real music.

It has lost its purity by making it mainstream. it's not that the audience got more open, it's that hip-hop got more commercial. Do you remember NWA? That was some raw, true-blue hip-hop... Right now, hip-hop is another fad.
