I drive a 2000 Honda Civic and am having trouble with my windshield when it rains. There's no problem when it rains a lot, but when it rains just a little bit the water just smears around when I turn my windshield wipers on, obscuring my view. I tried installing new wipers, and it doesn't look like that is the problem. I tried cleaning the windshield with windex, and no dice. This issue is bad enough that I've had to pull into gas stations when it just sprinkles to squeegee the windshield because I can't see! Does anyone have any theories about what's wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks..

It sounds like there is something on there that the windex cant clean off. I would get a good commercial glass cleaner and use that, you might try some rubbing alcohol. Then apply some rainX and that should do it.

You probably have a build up of road grime. Try using a can of sprite or 7-up on the windshield. There is something in it that eats the grime off. Just pour it over the windshield and then wipe it off with a dry towel. If that doesn't work you could try rubbing alcohol. It could damage the paint tho so don't let it run onto the hood.

ur shield has a thin build up on it of road grime, pollution, and other air borne substances. my best suggestion is to get some soap and water and like some 2000 grit sandpaper and with the palm of ur thumb lightly rub an inconspicuous spot, like and the bottom corner or so, dry it off really good and then simulate sprinkling rain with ur garden hose and see if the spot clears up if not I'm sorry i could not help, but i did this to mine as i had the same prob. i even put industrial brake cleaner and parts cleaner on it and this stuff would not come off, but the sandpaper worked great. or just replace the windshield.

Sometimes a film can get on windshields that isn't really visible until it rains. Usually, it is from fine sap deposits or pollution. It doesn't always come off with regular washing - you almost need to polish the glass to remove it. Rain-ex does polish the glass a bit so I would give that a shot first.

Sounds like you have oil build up on the wind shield. Pour a room temp. coke on the windshield and wipe it clean with newspaper. Then clean it again with Windex. The acid in the coke mixed with the rough newspaper will get the grim off.

it would desire to be the windshield has been contaminated with tree sap or pollen, or the blades are in basic terms dry. attempt making use of the wipers and hit the washing device fluid button to assist lube them. If the noise is going away, then the blades are in basic terms dry. as a techniques through fact the contaminants on the glass itself, attempt making use of a paint clay bar, this removes each and every thing on the glass and promises a constructive delicate floor for the blades to swipe over removing that shudder sound. good success......

Maybe it is tree sap, some of it is extremely hard to get off. I would try a more powerful cleaner than Windex.
