Would it be cheaper to hire independent contractors to work and pay them with our tax money ourselves. I'm just surious how much of our money ends up at cocktail hour of our tax paid representatives.

It's similar to insurance. Should a person in the north have to pay for someone in the south to have equivelant insurance rates on thier home when the southern homes are in more danger of disaster? Same system.
By the way, just how would you personally exactly hire independant contractors for the military?

Lots of money is wasted, but there's no way it would be efficient if each of us had our own police, firemen, roads, etc.

It would be better to band together, appoint experts, and pool resources.

That's what government IS.

But like most human enterprises it becomes corrupted.
