Now that the 1 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is just a few days away, 8/29/06, tell what were you doing when you heard the news or saw it on the news for the first time? Or if you were a victim of "dat *****", as we call her from louisiana, what were your thoughts and fears?

I was praying for family members who had evacuated to a hospital in the middle of New Orleans. I was also frustrated with the media, as from here in Washington, we got little to no information about any area except the Superdome. I had no idea what was going at at the hospital they were at and not a clue about friends in Mississippi. All we could do was pray. Fortunately, everyone, including the pets came out of it unscathed- I can't say the same for their homes- some lost everything but the clothing on their backs.

I was in Pensacola, FL and then Daphne, AL, because we evacuated our home in south Mississippi....Katrina actually hit the ENTIRE state of Mississippi. I will never forget the day we left...Jim Cantori said...if you want to know what the MS Gulf Coast looks like now...come take a picture because tomorrow..she will not be the same!

I was in Germany watching tv. My granny, who's originally from Pascagoula, MS called me and told me to check the news. I spent the next five days watching the news whenever I was at home. It was such a horrific thing to see from a distance, I can't imagine what it was like for the people who lived there and actually experienced the turmoil of losing their homes and seeing loved ones injured or worse. That situation is just one more thing that makes me despise this administration.

Even before Katrina hit New Orleans, we were praying and believing in God for the lives of those people. My thoughts were that i never expected to turn out the way it turned out to be, and my fears were that, how it would affect the rest of the world. I thank God still for his mercies and grace for those who had made it.

I was home unemployed watching it on TV. My child's father and I watched the horror and cried our eyes out. Wish I could say I physically helped.
