I've seen a couple and still am not sure what to make of it. Seen some dancing, skits, and stand up. All the shows have felt like college variety shows.

In the words of Gypsy Rose Lee - the Queen of Burlesque -

'Let me entertain you!
Let me make you smile!'

burlesque leaned more towards striptease and exagerated comedy rather than vaudeville which was more plain comedy, whimsical skits, and talent along the lines of a variety show

It's supposed to be a cross between stripping, comedy and entertainment. Back in the day it was more like stripping is today, but easier to go to if there was a comedian thrown in to the mix. Now it is a sort of revival, kinda kish but still there to get people excited.
