I am 40 weeks and 2 days, I have pitting edema in my legs and feet and my nurse practioner is not helpful. First off this is my second child and my first was a week late. I don't get to see a doctor until I'm ready to push where I go (No one else takes my insurance). I started having edema 3 weeks ago and did like they said elevate my legs, drink lots of water, and avoid salt. I have always keep an eye on my b/p even before pregnancy because I have always had very low blood pressure. I have been keeping a closer eye on it now. It has been runnig around 112/60 up until now. Now it is running 134/85, which is still in the normal range. I have talked to my nurse about my worries, and she didn't really explain anything... "well you need to just have that baby". I have not dilated anymore (1cm) and She isn't going to see me again until the 30 of this month. I know alot of you are going to fuss at me, but right now that doesn't mater. I can't walk, don't and can't have sex, and need help.

U need to go hospital quick!!!!!
Don't wait for something bad to happen, get attention immediatly!!
Your baby's health may be a risk and/or you might need help. They will know what to do!!
P.S. Don't worry about the money right now, it is the baby and you first.

You sound exactly like me. My BP was right around where yours is both before and during pregnancy. My feet and legs started swelling three months before my baby was born. The doctor kept telling me not to worry, that some people swell more and I was one of the lucky ones. So I wouldn't worry about the swelling. As for how to get things moving...not a whole lot you can do. At least you know that you can't still be pregnant a month from now!

First off your blood pressure is fine. It might be high according to your "normal" pressure is but you are not in a normal situation. 40 weeks and 2 days is not uncommon. You can usually go around 10 days past due date and they will induce. As far as walking or having sex - is it because you are uncomfortable or because you are in pain? Sex will induce labor sometimes. Walking will help the baby get into position so you just lying there or sitting there is not helping the matter. I know you are very uncomfortable but the longer you do not move the longer it will take the baby to come out. Get up and move a bit even if its going the corner and back and do it every hour or so. Try to have sexbut not if it causes pain. Going to the hospital and telling little white lies is not going to get you anywhere since the monitors show whether or not you are having contractions. You should be going to the nurse praction every few days though to make sure the baby is fine and in no distress. Make sure that is being done.
All in all before you know it and I know it seems like forever the baby will be here.
I cannot stress to you enough to try and get up and walk around even if its back and forth in the living room to get you moving.
Good luck and have a happy and healthy baby.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pregnancy problems. I have a friend who is in the same boat as you and she is frustrated as well. This is her first baby and she is a week overdue now and shes so tired of being pregnant! Seems like your nurse isn't very helpful but I really think that you need to watch your blood pressure. It may sound stupid but your baby is going to come out! U really are only days past your due date so just relax. Whatever u do don't drink Castor oil. You will just get diarrhea!

That's really serious. I got toximia, and the doctors induced me the next day! That is really serious for you and your baby! I'm not sure what to tell you to do about all this, I might go back to the hospital. And as far as trying to get the baby to come... I tried everyway I heard of! Well, it didn't make my son come any quicker, but it did put him in disstress! He pooped before he was born, and I didn't get to hold him for 2 hours, that was the most scary thing i've ever been though! Good luck with everything, and congradulations on your baby!

Have you tried aroma therapy? I know that I was worried that I was going to be late with my first. I was invited to an aroma therapy party two days before my due date and just 3 hours after I got home I went into labor and had my daughter on my due date. It worked for me and I am a firm believer. I am not a fruit either cause I didn't think that it would work. I never believed in that kind of stuff. Try it. Best of luck.

Well, if you've had one baby already, you know this pregnancy was completely different from your first one. You also know that a due date is an estimated time (if you knew the 1st day of your last period). Some go up to 42 wks!!! The baby will come when it's ready. Women have been doing this for years, everything will be just fine. Patience is a virtue...God will take care of you. I know it feels like this baby's never gonna come out, but like I said, when it's time, he/she'll come!

I do not understand why they have not done anything about this. Even though your blood pressure is normal it is almost high or pre-hypertension. It has also been proven that the longer you go past your due date the weaker the placenta gets. Which may prevent your baby from getting the nutrients it needs. You need to DEMAND some attention to your condition immediately. For the health of you and your baby. Also request to have an ultrasound to see if the amniotic fluid is still at the correct level.

Oh my gosh I hope that baby comes soon, I have two kids and neither of the late. But I heard nipple stimulation will start causing contractions, or you can go in and say you think youre in labor and have them set you up and they may just end up inducing you. Im sure you are having at least the Braxton Hicks contractions, just tell a little white lie and say that the contractions are getting stronger and you think you need to come in. I wish you the best, thoughts and prayers are with you. Also I have heard to eat spicey food. Nothing worked for me the babies just came but please do not try castor oil, it can be bad for the baby if he/she defecates in the womb and it goes in the lungs.
Take care.
