I have in fact had ants in my pants. They were also in my shirt. It turned out that I was standing right on top of a nest, and several of them started climbing up me.

I didn't really notice much of anything (maybe I'm just stupid, or generally oblivious - I was on a botanical field trip and intent on identifying the plants I was looking at) until one of the ants reached my chest, where I started feeling a tickling sensation. Like a dummy, I swatted at the tickly feeling, crushing the ant. This must have released some sort of alarm single, because instantly, all of the other ants all over me started biting.

I ran into the woods and whipped off my shirt, swatting at the painful bites I was receiving everywhere. I didn't actually take off my pants, but crushed the ants crawling around and biting on my legs. The other people I was on the trip with thought I must have had a bathroom emergency or something, since I didn't scream or yell or anything, just suddenly tore off into the woods. They all started yelling moments later when the ants still in the nest found them and started attacking.

These were carpenter ants, so although they were big, with quite painful bites, they were not nearly as bad as fire ants would have been, nor were they as numerous as many of the smaller field ants would have been. So it could have been worse.

It was quite painful, and not an experience I would recommend to anyone.

ohhhhh I did NOT have ants in the pants but I DID have ants on my bare feet!!! ouch ouch ouch....when I realized it they were already biting me and I totally freaked out and started jumping and stomping. I HATE ants--even before this happened. I dont even want to think about the pants thing. They bite and hurt no matter what color or type they are! Actually I accidentally stepped into an ant hill the first time when I was a child waiting for the ice cream man and had the same reaction. bare skin and ants are a no no. sting, bite and creepy. ewwww

In English that is called a "figure of speech." When people say it is "raining cats and dogs" they really don't expect to see puppies and kittens falling from the sky.

Yes, they crawl up until they find a nice place to bite and it usually is in a place that hurts more than others.
