The pill & other hormone birth controls (Nuvaring & Orthoevra) I have tried have caused pretty severe depression. I need feedback on other effective ways to prevent pregnancy with plans to conceive next year. I hate condoms but have not tried any other barrier methods or spermicides etc. Not interested in an IUD.

What non-hormonal birth control have you used and how effective is it compared to the pill? Also, what form do you NOT reccommed?

Thanks for your help!!!

No offense but I really only need advice from adult women here. Guys & teens, you don't have the experience needed to answer this for real.

No doubt about it I recommend Fertility Awareness Method. Get the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and it will guide you on how to get started. It's easy, free, and when practiced correctly has a lower failure rate than any other method. All that is involved is taking your temp each morning. It's so simple. Also, when you are ready to get pregnant you will have a great advantage of already knowing when you are fertile.

I too am looking for a new non-hormone birth control method. I was actually considering the copper IUD for a while, and my doctor really recommended it highly to me. But because of all of the bad experiences people have related to me on here I'm having second thoughts. For now I'm just going to be using the mini pill, since I'm breastfeeding. The other non-hormonal birth control methods that are on a handout I have are the diaphragm, spermicides, cervical cap, female condoms, and natural family planning. None of which appeal to me because you have to plan ahead for all of them and can't be spontaneous. Oh, and I also heard that the sponge is back on the market too. Maybe one of these methods would be right for you. If not you can always talk to your doctor about the different types of birth control pills that have lower doses of hormones to help prevent depression. I feel I can't help too much seeing that I've only tried pills and condoms. Good luck finding something that works!

I think you should ask about a pill that is really low on hormones, I was going to suggest the Depo evra, but this one sometimes make you gain a lot of weight. I used this last one and it took me 1 year and 6 months to get pregnant.

well, i DON'T recommend the mother-in-law method of birth control. the one where you place a pic of yer mom on yer face during sex so he'll never get there? but i do recommend complete and total abstinence from now on, and just have an onanistic sex life, but live in the same house and everything.
