Yes, it can be related. Call your pediatrician, though.

I can't seem to find any info on this online, but I'm a pre-med student (applying to med school this year) and I'm almost certain that I remember one of my professors talking about this. Your sinuses are all interconnected and an infection can cause tremendous pressure changes. Seeing as how your nasal sinus cavities sit right around your teeth and mouth it would seem logical that a bad ear infection could cause mouth pain (it also explains why there's a specialty that includes ear, nose, and throat all together).

You could call the Dr.'s office and ask one of the nurses. They would know.

Hope your boy feels better soon...good luck.

I don't want to scare you or anything, but about a yr ago my husband had an ear ache in his left ear. Later that night we put some drops in his ear and after what seemed to be 15 minutes he was complaining of being able to either taste the drops or just a nasty taste in general. Well, we went on to bed and he woke up the next morning with half of his face numb. Went to the dr. right away and because of this "ear infection" he was diagnosed with "Bells Palsy". Antibiotics cleared up his ear infection but because of this that one nerve in his face is still pinched. Just be careful with the whole ear infection and mouth hurting thing. I wish you the best.

Sometimes, a person experiences pain that seems to be located in the throat or jaw due to inflammation of the ear. So it's possible that there is no additional condition, just the basic ear infection causing this reflected pain. It's also possible that he does have inflammation of the throat or tonsils in conjunction with the ear infection.

Yes, ear infections drain in the ear canal which is connected to the nose and throat so your child can get a sore mouth from the fluids draining in throat along with a runny nose from fluids draining in the nose.

Yes they can be related. I would take him to the doctor and see if he has a sinus infection. Because the same thing happened to me. I had a really bad ear infection and it started causing my mouth to hurt. It turned out it was a sinus infection causing it all.

Hope he gets to feeling better.

how old is your son?
I have seen kids with so called "ear infections" from teething... total crap. you dont get an ear infection when you are teething. the inflammation from the teeth coming in can cause irritation inside of the ear/ ear pain.

yes the sinus/eustation tubes/tonsils are somewhat connected too.
he may have allergies as well.
I guess we need more information, you can't diagnose someone over the net.

Yes - ear, nose and throat are connected. Have you checked his tonsils? If they are up it causes pain in the ear when you swallow.
