Sometimes I enjoy the excitement of the game and what I learn about myself in massive defeat, but often my ego is bruised and I think mostly about my blunders. There is a Zen saying "Your enemy is your greatest teacher." Do you think this applies to competitive games as well? How can you learn from defeat and not make victory all-important, sacrificing the path and not enjoying the journey of the game?

Remember that it is just a game and it is not a skill game except chess but some people are luckier than others just shrug it off and play another one and remember to have fun

I started playing boardgames in an organized group over 5 years ago and I've only recently started to be able to remember that it's just a game and the object is to have fun. I have intellectual insecurities to overcome and it isn't easy when you're the only with no college education and you're playing with a bunch of PhDs and software engineers. Sometimes I feel pretty stupid, but I have learned a lot from losing and I'm better now at not being a sore loser. It just took time and practice.

I enjoy the game, just for the fun of playing, win or lose, I am a happy sport.

I enjoy games, win or lose. Of course I enjoy them more when I win, but while I am losing I try to have a sense of optimism and hope, that I can "come back" and still win.

I enjoy playing monoploy
even though I never win

And that Zen saying could be taken two ways:
Your enemy is your greatest teacher.
(your TEACHER is the one to beware of)

Our family loves playing board games, even though my husband wins them all 99% of the time. For us though, its about getting together, talking, being goofy and just having a good time. No one minds losing plus we usually eat alot of snacks, chocolate always makes you feel good

It is just a game so enjoy, but if the other person cheated to win then it's time to get even.

First it is important to say,"this is only a game." To lose occasionally, builds character and improves strategy for future game play.

I used to get owned in Scrabble by my old man. Now I just accept it (after years of theropy). Other than that, no. I'm a pretty sore loser.
