I love the logo that I found on their website, but want the flexibility of using this logo on other forms of communication including electronic letterhead, etc. Where could I find out who created this logo? Is it possible to buy the rights to put this logo on items other than the business card? does 123printing 'own' the logo?

For starters, 123printing does own that logo. Once a company creates a business identity and then creates a logo, they get it trademarked. This allows them to take legal action against anyone using the same logo.

Now, you can make variations to it, to allow you rights to use it.

From your description, it sounds like you mean a "logo" as in one of the clipart choices on their site... not the actual 123printing logo.

Either way, you'd have to ask them about it. If it's on a site then I assume it's either clipart (bad, bad idea to use clipart in a logo!) or a registered trademark.

It's a bad idea to use clipart in a logo because
A) it may be impossible to trademark
B) if it's clipart, then it's inherently not unique. The whole point of a logo is to make a unique visual statement about your business, right?
