Being British I think NASA is only thing I like about America... well not the only thing but almost!
There is not one shred of doubt in my mind that NASA accomplished the mission to the moon succesfully in 1969. I know... I wet my nappy at the time... literally.
Russia tried but when the yanks beat them to it they didn't see any point in it after that.
NASA has accomplished many things since then and are continuing to accomplish many things now.
They've got a great website and I find it really informative.

There's an old saying: "If it ain't broke don't fix it." They need more money. I would think a large space station would make more sense right now. Eventually we could build any ships from there closer to our own orbit. We could eventually build a Space station large enough that we could put it on the Moon or in it's orbit. It appears to me that much of the information we see on the Internet is already outdated and is only some concept to appease our interests until something more feasible comes along. I would like to think that they are working hard on the capability of destroying or altering the course of any life threatening objects in our solar system. Personally we should never put a dollar figure on Man-kinds progress or salvation.........EVER.

Men have landed on the moon. Anyone who has access to a sufficiently powerful telescope can verify that fact.
The Soviet Union never sent men to the moon because the US beat them to it, and they had a series of rocket booster failures in the mid to late '60s that seriously hampered their lunar program.
NASA was once on the cutting edge of science and technology. But now, it seems to have become just another typical government bureaucracy, long on promises and money consumption but short on achievements.

do you have a phone? do you watch tv, sometimes? do you use internet? do you like knowing what's the weather is going to be like tomorow?
all that things are done more easily thanks to people sending satelites in space. Now, nasa didn't necessarily do all the work alone, but you have the lifestyle you have thanks to them.
and obviously: nasa did go to the moon (or the russians would have called the bluff), and the russians didn't because they didn't care.

In all fairness to NASA, despite their failures, a number of major medical breakthroughs have been made by observing the effects of zero-gravity on the human body.

In the context of what? Of course they landed on the moon, I think a reusable space craft is quite worth while but it depends what you mean by worth while (as compared to what? )
