6 months. In CT there are no extensions - check with your State Department of labor.
There is one way to make your benefits last longer though. Check with your State to see how they go about this. If you work part time or take a temporary assignment, notify the Department of Labor. You claim the money every week. 2/3's of what you make for the week will be subtracted from your check. So you can still get some part of the unemployment benefits if you make less than 1 1/2 times what you make on your check.
ie: Your check is 300. You work one week and make $90. You keep your $90, and then they will subract 2/3's of that from your check, so $300 - $60 is $240. So really, you were able to make more for the week because $90 + 240 = $330. Also, since you are only working part time, you still have time to go on interviews and job search and all that.
If you make more than 1 1/2 times your check, then you just won't get a check that week.
However - you don't lose that money! The money that is deducted from your claim is still there - so if you end up going beyond the 6 months, that money is still there for you to draw on until it is all used up.
This is the only way in CT that the claim can be some what extended.
Just don't try and pull any fast ones and not claim any money that you might earn while on unemployment. They have people looking for things like that and if you get caught it won't be pretty.
