Do you live in the country and next to a large field? You may be getting field mice in your house. The traps are the best way. You don't want dead mice in your walls. As suggested, saturate your house with traps. Put them only along the walls as that is where they travel. Throw the trap and carcass away and replace with a new trap. They are cheap. Steel wool is not effective as they just chew a new hold next to it. Your dog may get his nose or paw snapped once or twice but he will leave them alone after that. Moth balls are a good deterrent if you can abide the smell.

have you tried putting chili pepper powder around.. Mice hate that! Oh did you know mice like the taste of dog food .. so put that where the mice can't get it but your dog can! Also hid your cheese and anything that mice like! Exception put chile pepper in with cheese in mouse traps. Many mice are smart they learn how to get the cheese without getting hurt! Alternatively you can control your Asthma with Breath Easy tea! If you drink that regularly you can have a cat! Breathe Easy tea is what I use cause I have Asthma and I can't use the inhaler cause I'm too sensitive.. the inhaler knocks me out like a light!

Get large sticky traps and place a small dab of crunchy peanut butter in the middle. Be careful to hide them in places the dogs can not react. Also place them in the rooms with the highest amount of mice traffic. Create bottle neck zones. Force them to run into the traps. overuse traps. Place 8-12 of them in a room.
I used this method at my moms house and it works every single time.

D-Con will work but be sure the pests can get outside for water, or they'll die inside. They need water badly.
Keep D-Con in hidden places away from your dog. I don't know if a dog would eat it. It has licorice in it.
Attic, basement, in cabinets, but never out in an open area.
Professionals kill only the ones subjected to the treatment. It runs them off, but doesn't reach the nests.
I knew a child who ate it on several occasions. He survived after it was discovered and not too late. Doctors could not diagnose the symptoms.

One thing that people do not realise about mice, where poisoning them is concerned they take a lot more killing than rats, seriously! You need a bait based on calciferol. I have seen a mouse scurry up to a bait station baited with that , have its fill, then drop dead as it tries to go back, it is that quick! Whether you can buy it "over the counter" where you live I do not know, but it is available in UK.

Cat is the most effecient way with out risk of snapping fingers or haveing poison in the house. It's fun to watch too! Since your allergic, I would reccomend borrowing a friends cat the next time you go out of town.

The truth is if you are allergic to cats, you might need a snake, non-venomous of course. If you use D-con you need to put small buckets of water that they can climb into. They go right to the water but drown before they can get out.

Equal part mixture oatmeal, sugar, and cement, and leave a pan of water for them to drink. Do not let the dog near it. They will meet their doom. This also works with instant mashed potatoes, but seems more effective with cement.

Get a hypoallergenic cat (one of the hideously ugly hairless jobbies).
