On Yahoo! Answers... ha gotcha all! But really folks, whay are we spending so much time here typing answers to questions of people whom we feel comfortable enough typing deatiled answers to in honesty and deliberation, rather than out there in the world, living life and speaking with our voices with those people? Do we really need such a distant prompt to communicate with one another? Why do people get freaked out when a "stranger" trys talking to them in person. (Hey, I'm no acception. Online I say what I think best to help people with their questions and openly speak my thoughts, yet carefully as to not hurt or offend anyone, but in real life when someone I don't know asks me "How are you today?" I suffer to cough out the words, "Fine, thanks. And you?") What's the big deal? What do you all think? Sorry if I am sounding a bit ranting, I only want to paint an accurate picture and I only have so much capacity to do so with use of lesser words.

Why do you see this question as complaining? It's a straight forward question with no judgement attached. Perhaps a few too many angled details, however, no complaining as such. I only wish to know what are the veiws of others with regaurds to the subject.

Internet communication differs from real life because you can ask questions that normally wouldn't to be asked in person. From personal to just being silly, the internet lets us communicate without any intimidation. Plus, you get tons of insightful opinions from people all over the world.

First we get freaked out because mommy and daddy told us, long, long ago, not to talk to strangers. There are a lot of adult girls out there who got raped as a result of doing this fine act and I know one. She actually open the window of her car and the guy stuck a gun inside, hold to slide over and then did what is called an "around the world" and stole all her rings and chains.
Do you remember that "christian" girl who went to Aruba and left the comfort of her escourts and now has vanished.
I moved from L.A. to upstate NY and it's taken me a long time to get used to people saying "Hi!" on the streets. In L.A. is was "what you doing in my hood with those tan khaki pants!"
You have to adapt to the culture.
I walk 2 miles at midnight down dark back roads and don't worry out here. I'd never do that in L.A.
I knew Muslims in person. Generally nice people until the conversation gets to the Middle East or Jews or Oil and then they become scarey.
None of that happens here on the internet.
Someone doesn't like me or my answer and sends me a nasty e-mail, I just shine it. They don't know where I live. I can care less what they think.
Tick a big dude who lives down the street from you and you fear for your life until he moves or you move.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I love sitting here in the mornings with my coffee and getting my brain in gear for the day by reading. I love hearing different opinions and viewpoints from anywhere. I have learned so much from YA. Scary huh? As for the real world, I love it too. I have the gift of gab (as my hubby politely puts it) and talk to many strangers throughout my day. I love people and would like to meet them all....LOL. I also like this forum as I believe that we are all part of the global community.
But, I think that many people, especially in the society and culture section, feel better talking about "controversial" subjects in an anonymous setting. They can feel heard, validated, questioned and more without exposing themselves in their "real" community.

More tourism needed! Is a board game about a world without borders and no-war a valuable way to boost geography scores? Starbucks wants to be the next McDonalds, so they can put this in their marketing mix? http://www.xanga.com/ivyleaguefood
Do something other than just complaining.

I think its good Yahoo! has Yahoo! Answers because like you said in the real world people wont give you their real opinions. People say whats really on their minds on the internet I guess because no one knows who they are

I like talking on here b/c you can ask ppl stuff you can't ask someone you properly know, if that makes sense b/c your never going to see/meet them so you could say anything you want. Like i can say i love matt c but i could never say that to him! It would be just my luck if he was online today and he saw this that would be typical. It's easier to talk to strangers!

We have nothing but time on our hands..... and also we don't see each others face so it doesn't really matter if we pour our "hearts" out to one another.
