There are various ways... two described below
(Im assuming you're using Windows XP with service pack 2 - but this should work on other systems)

1)
Right click on your desktop,
select properties - a new window will appear
click on the "Settings" tab and you will then see a picture of a screen.
Below that will be a little bit of text "Display: MONITOR NAME on CARD NAME".
To get more details, you can then click on the "Advanced" button at the bottom right and click on the "Adaptor" tab. That will give you a full description

2)
Click the "Start" button,
RIGHT CLICK "My Computer"
Select Properties - A new window will open
Select the "Hardware" tab
Click "Device Manager" - Another new window will open
This window will list ALL hardware in and connected to your computer in the form of an expandable list...
Click on the "+" next to "Display Adaptors"
It will expand and show you the name of you graphics card...
You can double click that name to reveal more detailed settings...

this is quite easy ...simply go start>control panel>display properties>settings tab....advanced >adapter>this will then tell you the make of your graphics card and its memory and ramdac
if you need a more technical rundown of your card type in run...dxdiag this will give you a diagnostic window where you can run all kinds of tests such as display, direct x,sound, music, and you will also find out what version of direct x you have(windows xp has direct x 8 by defualt)
once you find out your graphics card it would be a good idea to update their drivers
here is a list of links for all the major graphic card manufacturers
