Disconnect your computer from the internet and spyware/adware can't get in. Then you won't need to scan for it anymore. Afraid it's all part of the package.

Get off the Internet. Never read email with a computer. do not go to sites with pictures or movies.

There is a program called Deep Freeze that you can purchase that everytime you restart your computer, it returns the computer to its original state. That means that if you do get a virus, all you need to do is restart your computer and the virus will be gone.
