cover oil with kitty litter. let sit awhile. then sweep it up.

Why are you trying to get oil off a tar driveway? I'd just leave it on the top. If you have any oil pooled on the surface, I'd just dry it up with kitty litter (clay type, not the fine granule clumping type) and sweep in up.

Yes you do want to get it up. Oil will not evaporate like gas and it will eat up your asphalt drive way. The best I found was kitty litter. The cheapest kitty litter you can find, because it is the dustyest and will soak up more. I have never swepted it up. Eventually the wind and rain will take care of it. If I need more I dump some more on it.

Go to a local auto parts store (NAPA- OREILLY) ask ask for an oil absorbant (speedi-dry)

Use TSP its a very strong chemical. use it as a paste and wear gloves. wash away with water when done.
