This is way too complicated and personal a question to get any reasonable answers in this type of forum. My advise is ask yourself a lot of questions which only you can answer.
- Can I get another job that pays enough to support my life style?
- Is there a way to get more involved with the decision making in the family business?
- Will the positive aspects of my current job still be there if I work somewhere else?
- Will the demands on my time be greater if I take another job?
- How will leaving this job affect my wife and child?
- Where will I be in 5 years if I leave...and if I stay?
- Is there another type of job that I know will give me greater satisfaction or am I letting frustration be my motivation?
And so on and so forth.
You need to look at the entire situation as objectively as possible, weigh all the pluses and minuses, and then make your choice.
Good luck.

The big question to me is this: Are you being shown the door? Also, is the family business in trouble? If it looks like you may be sans job in the near term, you had better get looking.
If you're secure, realize this: there are no perfect jobs. There are no perfect employers. There are no completely harmonious workplaces. There's better and there's worse, most hover around the middle.
Before you look outside the firm, try to re-purpose yourself inside the firm. Get additional training, or at least visit with senior management to see what you can do to improve your position without leaving the firm. Sometimes just expressing interest is enough to revive a stalled career.
If the ship is in good shape, stay on board and take on a new role. If the ship is sinking, by all means - jump now.

Work politics are in every job. It could be a different issue at a different place, but it will never go away. At least it is with your family, and not with a whole bunch on strangers vying for the best for themselves and no one else.
If you are unhappy, it is OK to try to find another job. Just don't leave this one until you have something to fall back on. Good luck, Hon.

Find a way to stay and be happy, obviously, but if it is too much, a change of scenery is imperative. The fact that you get little or no input is a bad feeling. Your ideas need to be taken seriously! I think if you don't get out, it can be a time in your life that will haunt you for a long time. You wil have many regrets.

if your unhappy i would start looking at other jobs and when u find one..let the family know how great your new job is!!! that way it not like your leaving the buissness without a new income to support ur family..you sound like a good man that puts his family needs first..but u also deserve to be happy..so my advice is don't quit until u find a new job or you can express to them why ur unhappy but that would probably lead to backstabbing and such

If work were fun, we would pay them!
Sounds like you have a pretty good job all in all. We get too use to having a good job and start thinking about all the things wrong instead of the things that are good.

Take a month long vacation and when you get back you'll realize (hopefully) that working in the family business is better than working for a living.

If you stay there will be trouble, but if you leave it will be double.
