i can't host/join online games coz my internal & external ip addresss r different?what makes them different

i was trying to join a game in game spy but i can't. when i tried to host it, game spy says that ur external and internal ip address r different so their can be problems . i can open the "getting ready" screen but can't play the game. my question is, is it all happening due to my internal and external ip addresses. if yes why,r they different and how can i make them same

You are behind a router...you might need to forward ports on it to be able to play the games. Check your router manual to see how to forward ports...then figure out which ports you need to forward for that particular game and then do it. Each game is different...you might need to do it for each one.
