Go to linux.org
You can search for a linux distro that meets your conditions, requirements and specifications.
The best ones are ubuntu and puppylinux which are for free and are small compared to other distros.

Read up a little more on Linux to get an understanding before you install otherwise you will probably be sorely suprised. Almost all linux distros are distributed freely, exceptions being linspire (now freespire is availbale) , and some of the corporate ones (which can still be compiled from source you just don't get the support). Linux is not just one OS it is the Kernel there are various linux distros which all have their ups and downs. I personally would recommend Ubuntu which can be downloaded from www.ubuntu.com it has a very simple installed, and is very friendly to the new users. If your interested in more information or other distros check out www.distrowatch.com

There are many linux distros that come in live cd.
The best known is Knoppix, but you can also try PCLinuxOS live,
Debian live or Goblinx. These are all really good Linux OSs for normal user.

You can also find live cds for specifical tasks, but I'm sure you'll be fine with any of those. (Mostly try Knopix or PCLinux)
