Individuals need to look to themselves to do their best to improve their lot and not keep expecting the government to wipe their butts for them. You choose where you live and what you do with your life. It is unfair to expect the government to extract money from honest hard working people to pay for your personal problems or pet causes. You should bear the consequences of your own actions, not pin the consequences on others. You can choose to have house insurance, car insurance, ect...... if you need protection from possible disasters in the future.

I don't believe that all of America should be held to the fire on this one. It is up to the regions that are affected that should get the grilling. What's their problem? If they receive all this cash to help rebuild, what are they waiting for? I can do nothing from Wisconsin except make donations and take people in. I know nothing about infrastructure rebuilding i.e. roads, bridges, levies. Perhaps Governor Blanco and Mayor Ray Nagin (I could point out that they are both Dems but I won't) could give you a better answer as to why it is taking so long. They got the money but do they have the smarts?
Have a great day!!!

no more free money for katrina , it was a terrible thing but the home owners , city's , and states are responsible . If you own a home you should have insurance , if I cancel my insurace and my house catches on fire or floods I don't expect the government to pay for my rent for a year . The rebuilding is up to whoever owns the land that was destroyed . they should just fill new orleans in with dirt anyways , a city under the water line? who thought of that genious idea

I should think the major problems with the cleanup effort are greed, bureaucracy and just plain stupidity. Not to mention the element of race, and area. Most corporations and politicians don't give a damn unless they can steal a few million each, and photo op for re-election. You can bet that if the Hurricane had hit the Hampton's, every politician would be there in a heartbeat, and every hand would be properly greased. That's just one of the many problems with our dollar driven society.

Excuse me but last time I checked my Roof was still missing and I am in FLORIDA. Why does Katrina get all the attention. My Hurricane happened TWO years ago not ONE year ago. Do I have to be poor and black for it to get political attention and media attention? We had 4 Hurricanes in Florida in '04 not just one. THIS area is still devistated too, but there is no political gain in letting people know about it because we are WHITE.

Oh, but you must be a bleeding heart liberal who wants to steal from the rich who legally earned their money by exploiting others honestly.

And of course, its much more important to go rebuild Iraq infrastructure we destroyed than to take care of our own neighbors and citizens.

Why, becuz they aint no mo oil in La/Miss and theyz only black peepul down thar.

This is the way the country functions.

Get used to it or get out and do something about it.

But stop your whining - it doesn't make you feel better and it's of absolutely no practical use.
