It doesn't makes sense because Pluto doesn't orbit other planets but the SUN and it has moons too. Restless people are just finding more questions to be answered.

Pluto was discovered in 1930, 66 years ago, and there were questions even then about it being too small and in too strange an orbit to be a real planet.

But this is not the first time a planet was demoted.

When the first and largest asteroid, Ceres, was discovered in 1801, it was officially called a planet. But within about 50 years it was demoted to a new category called "asteroid". But asteroids are also called "minor planets". Today, asteroids are monitored by the "Minor Planet Center".

Well, I know what you mean. I don't like it because I'm a Science teacher. But we've already come up with a new pneumonic device - My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos.

You're right - my solar system chapter just becase obsolete.

Well it's only a couple more years till textbook adoption and I guess when I get to Astronomy I'll just do an update.

hey friend i also read the news just now im also very bad because we hav being reading about pluto for the past years and if there is a new planet it will spoil all the orders to learn the planets distance wise.

Where did you learn that? I know it was being considered but have not read about the resolution.

I have no problem with having 4 inner rocky planets, 4 outer gaseous planets, and categorize Pluto and 2003UB313 ("Xena") as Kuiper belt objectS or as minor planets.

Well, there used to be text books saying the Earth was flat...

The only way I will be concerned about Pluto is when/if it ever crashes into Earth. Until then...they can change it's name, definition, and how they think it was created...and my life will not be affected.

Pluto will always be a planet to me.

It's the cutest planet by far.

It is more than messing up things. It demonstrates the arrogance of a small group of humans who think they have power over the cosmic scheme of things. They aasume the "power" to decide what is and is not a planet.

Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas.

I'm cool with. It probably should've never been classified as a planet anyway. It's smaller than our moon.
