You start counting the day your period starts....Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. However, it will not be during your period. Many people think it’s possible because they do not completely understand how conception works. It might not happen right at the moment of intercourse since the sperm can live for days! If your cycle is short and you ovulate earlier than day 14 it can SEEM like conception takes place during your period...They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

your cycle has nothing to do with how long your period lasts. The cycle is time between the 1st days of your periods. Example, if your period started 8/1, and your next period started at 8/29, then you'd be on 28 day cycle (the number of days between 8/1 & 8/29).

Everyone says something different. I tried all that calculation crap too!! So instead of listening to everyone else I went and got a box of clear blue easy ovulation tests and used them every day from the day my period stopped until the test strip said I was ovulating. If you need more than the 7 that comes in the box, I suggest you go get some more! But every woman is different so I know like my cycle is 26 days, but you body is different than mine, so I don't know how many days is in your cycle. Also you could use a basal thermometer while using the test strips to be absolutely certain that you don't miss it! Good luck!

Well it depends on when it starts, you should get your period every 28 days, so there will be 21 days in which you do not have your period and 7 in which you do.

Your cycle is from the first day of your period to the next period. The length of your period should not affect this number.

period lasts only 4-7 days depending if you're heavy flow or light flow...it takes 21-28 days for the prcess of menstruation to begin and it will only last for a short while...if it was only 2-3 weeks after your previous period and you have again, you have a problem and it's not menstruation...
