people are superficial. NASA needs to hire some people to run a good PR marketing campaign. make the launches catch the public's imagination. It wouldn't be hard to do. Space shuttle launches are naturally exciting after all. I really have no idea why they haven't done this. I suspect it's because, while I'm sure they're very smart people, their intelligence is narrowly focused on the technical skills they need to create space shuttles, and they're not really that adept at seeing the full political and cultural picture they're part of.

Shuttle technology is at least 20 yrs old. OK so its a workhorse but not reliable. NASA needs a revolution in space travel technology. If we cant launch except in perfect weather conditions. If we cant launch without super big booster rocket. If we cant launch without months of preparation. Our technology is useless. The need to be investing in research and try a whole new route.

I absolutely do, especially being as we live 45 minutes from the Kennedy Space Center and regularly watch the shuttle and satellite launches from our front yard. A lot of good has come out of the space program and although it has seen its tragedies, I think there are still a lot of valid discoveries to be made.

Unfortunately, people today don't care about shuttle launches, nor do most care about how many soldiers die overseas everyday. As a society,we're too preoccupied with what Britney Spears is doing, what nation Angelina will be adopting next and who will be kicked off Big Brother.
Pretty pathetic, huh?

Sure. I want to see one in person. I have seen the shuttle fly over head in the Arizona desert years ago. I had to get out there about 5 in the morning. Worth it.
