In pop music, artists are trying a little too hard to be creative but isn't working. I mean look at Justin Timberlake's new song, 'Sexy Back'...WTF? What happened?

And what ever happened to guitar leads in rock? It's like bands don't know how to use their instruments anymore.

Yeah but alot of hip hop songs nowadays suck now also. Sorry to say. I also used to be in hip hop and dance to them but can't seem to feel the new ones out now.

Muse, I would have to agree with you that alot of the 80s songs were kinda silly.

I'm not impressed with alot of the 50s(and much older) music also.

But I still don't agree with you that the music now is much better than several years back. It's just not happening...

Pop and rock music has been deteroriating steadily since the mid nineties.I blame Mariah Carey and all those who followed who imitated her, as well as the music industry itself for dumbing things down by promoting and selling an inferior product when the industry was hurting. It was all "lets make a buck any way we can." Compare the artists of the 60s,70s and 80s with the garbage we have today ( Carey, the Simpsons, Aguilera, Levigne). The quality is just not there. And now this no talent Hilton has made an album. PULEEEEZE. I'm sure glad I'm an oldies fan.

If u think Rock sucks right now, u obviously arent looking hard enough or ur just talking about the commercial aspect of rock. Many older people say that current music sucks because they remember music from their childhood fondly, and nostalgia takes over, when in fact the music today is a lot better than it was 5, 10 years ago. And dont get me started on the horrible cheesiness that was the 80's. So try listening to someone more creative than Justin Timberlake before u say all music sucks..

Wow good question, I think it is because a lot of radio artists are being overproduced. It is more important to the record companies to have a catchy meaningless hit single, than a great album that makes a difference. Most of the artists don't really mind because they are getting paid well for it, not including all the advertising companies that will want a piece of that hit single to put with there new product.

There is hope though, as with everything, there are a lot great musicians that write, sing and play there own music.

Music goes through phases, Disco died and Rap broke through, Glam Rock died and Grunge broke through, who knows what will be next. All I can say is that I hope it comes soon because I am fed up with what I hear on the airwaves.

The main inspiration for anything on MTV is money.

The "artists" are picked by the company big wigs to be promoted to a target consumer. Everything is packaged according to what is already known to sell. The "artists" just play a small part in their success, and the success of the industry.

Today's "artists" aren't making their own choices. They're bought and sold.

I am afraid that the passion for music has been replaced for the $$$ in music. More and more singers are soley performers not artists and are being created by formulas that sell.
