A friend of mine who thought she was pregnant had this same problem and when she finally went to her OB, she was found to have a small cyst. This could be what's going on with you.
Good luck

A brown discharge very likely is old blood. So it needs attention.

Besides what the other said - it also depends on your age. If you are approaching pre-menopause - it may just be "normal".

But - I would go to the doctor to be sure. Just because also more serious problems start with a brown discharge. You should have checked that out.

I think if it is right around the time of your period, either a day or two before or a few days after, it is normal. I experience brown discharge on occasion as well. I think it is probably just "old" blood. If you are experiencing the discharge a lot and all during the month, I would consult your doctor.

This exact thing happened to me. The doctor did an ultrasound, and I have small cysts on my ovaries. They are small and not abnormal, but the doctor said they were a direct result of quitting birth control pills a few months earlier. She recommends that I go back on some kind of birth control to regulate my periods again, and she said that this could also make the spotting stop.
