George Bush has given the rich massive tax rebates and at the same time made it more expensive for the poor. Money makes money, so the rich keep on getting richer and the poor keep on getting poorer.
Its seems like a lot of people like this because so many are living there and many more would do so if they had the chance.
I much prefer old Europe where the differential is less and in general the political parties consider the whole community.

You know, in Indiana right now, the average medium income is about 37,000 per year. I now make about 10,000 below that. Does that make me poor? No, according to some agencies, I make too much money, even though I do not make the median income. I have no health insurance because it is too expensive. I thought it would be wise to try to have a roof over my head and food on the table and some reasonable transportation to go get the food, since we live in an area with no mass transit. So, why do people look down on me, am I poor? What does it mean to be poor? I am not rich according to the guidelines, but not exactly poor either. Define poor for me.

Poor people get free tickets. Some people take in foster children for a living. Some people claim they can't work for a living. Some claim they are not smart enough to make a living. Some sell real estate for a living. In America, one doesn't have to do anything to make a living. You can get by without offering anything to the world in this great country. I have my problems with the USA, but I love her all the same. For good or bad, better or worse kind of thing I got going on with her.
So, really there aren't any people in the USA who can't at least feed themselves if they want to take advantage of either the system that helps people who want to make a living doing nothing or some just take advantage of people directly such as real estate sales people who scrape huge bundles of money away from millions of people for a service that I don't quite understand. Please take no offense real estate people, most of you are innocent to your crimes against humanity.
I would never look down on someone for being poor. In fact, people who work for nearly nothing to get by are a lot braver and possibly more noble than I. However, poor people are often ignorant. They are often immoral and vulgar. They usually do not have much in common with the rich who used them to obtain their wealth. I must say that I do have much respect for poor honest hard working people. I only have a problem with dishonest, lazily, immoral poor people. Most people only do wrong for their eyes are covered by the darkness of ignorance. Like it says in the bible, "they know not what they do". So I love all people even though I may disagree with them and their ways, I still love em.

First our poorest people are far richer than most of the middle class in really poor country's. Unlike the poor of poor country's everyone here has an opportunity to improve themselves. I think people look down on the poor because we as a society are forced to care for the poor people here. It is not easy to have compassion for people who have chosen to be poor. I am not saying a person who got flooded out of there home by a hurricane or some other natural disaster. I mean the person who chooses to drop out of school, get pregnant as a teen, do drugs...you see my point? No one looks down on people who are the victim of an accident or something like but the person who by making poor choices finds that they can't care for themselves so now I have to do it for them, I tend to resent that.
If you want to know poor people go to Africa...they have real poor people and no way to change there circumstances.

i think every country has its problem of rich and poor and not a single one has solved it yet. maybe the money gained from taxes is being spent in the wrong place. maybe America's space programme and war loving ways is costing them dearly. i also think it is a communist view 2 think that everyone can be equal. it sounds nice but it brings so many problems. who would train 2 be a doctor if u get paid the same being a rubbish collector?

We don't we expect them to make something of themselves, be a contributing member of society, if all they do is collect welfare, and live off the taxpayer, like expectant little creatons then yes they are looked down upon. Most of our poor are better off than people with money in any other country.

Better do a little research, buddy!
You'll find that there are NOT "so many poor people" as you seem to suppose.
You've succumbed to one of the many recurring attempts to distract folks from what's really going on. The whole "so many poor people" distraction is just that - a distraction.

Americans are more right wing about poverty than we British are. There seems to be less access to social security benefits, they have to PAY for their healthcare (because medical treatment when sick is some sort of luxury, obviously!) and anyone who claims "Welfare" is really looked down on. The attitude to anyone who gets down on their luck and poor is "tough shite, its your fault" - they are all about free market economy, making money and stuff. Very selfish and "me me me its my money I want to keep it". Sort of like Thatcherism circa mid 80s. Not nice, I'd hate to live in America!!!
There is still some stigma about poverty and benefits in this country - just look at your local chav-filled dole scrounging Council estate. but we all get NHS treatment and most of us don't think twice of claiming something we're entitled to like Child Benefit, Working Tax Credit, free prescriptions etc. In America it seems to be a real stigma.
I just don't get America. I'm really really glad I don't live there! I like to live somewhere where the Government does take care of people who are down on their luck (despite the fact that our social security system does get abused by chavs, asylum seekers, dole fraudsters and other assorted trash and currently seems to care more about lazy scourngers and foreigners than decent Brits who just need a helping hand.)
