I got my first DJ experience at a college radio station. Once I had that a little experience, I walked in the door of a radio station and was (amazingly) hired.

If you're not going to college, stop at a station and see if you can intern there, with a goal of being a DJ. Work on your voice and diction... you will need to speak clearly and correctly pronounce the letter "W." (This is more important east of the Mississippi, where nearly all stations start with W. It is not "dubya," it is "double-you." Get used to it if you're going to be a DJ.)

contact the radio station (but don't call in- actually go email them or something) and ask if they have any spots for an internship. this is actually how a lot of people get experience for the job. also, they usually end up working there somehow and they can work their way up to a dj. good luck!!
