There are sooo many...Harrison Ford, Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Gene Hackman, Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, Mel Gibson, Russel Crowe, Tom Hanks and many more. The reason is basically the same for all of them...I don't think the best actor can be someone who has just started their movie career, or who does ridiculous films like "The Fast and the Furious". For true acting excellence, you need Oscar material. These actors have been working for years, and they really know their stuff. They're great at what they do, and they will not disappear anytime soon from the big screen. Others, like Vince Diesal, are another story.

Currently it's Johnny Depp because he starred in three of my four favorite films of the last ten years:
Ed Wood
Dead Man
Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas
(The fourth was Jeff Bridges in "The Big Lebowski.")
It's odd, because when Depp started out on "21 Jump Street," I absolutely despised him. I thought he was just like his character in real life, while I knew nothing at all about him. I'd just assumed that, and I'll now eat crow publicly for it.
I believe Johnny D. is the Brando of our time. I just hope he doesn't turn into the James Dean of our time. He's so eclectic. He gives a virtuoso performance in everything he does, and he gives it his all. It doesn't matter if he's a schlock transvestite filmmaker of the fifties, the guru of gonzo journalism, a croaking cowboy from Cleveland, a poofy pirate of the Caribbean, a delusional Don Juan, the big brother of a very special kid, or the voice of a nerdy goth dude who's torn between the woman of his dreams or the banshee of his nightmares-- the dude can act.
If Johnny Depp told me he discovered America, invented the internet, and made love to Marilyn Monroe on Pluto last week, I would not doubt his word.

Kevin Costner, my future husband (as soon as he dumps his current 25-year-old blonde)
It's not just the amazing eyes and cocky smirk - the man really can act. He's gotten flack for taking on these huge movie projects that don't pan out but he follows his heart. He's an excellent actor when he wants to be.
Bruce Willis is also good, and more than an action star - he really impressed me in the Sixth Sense.

My favorite movie actor is Carey Grant.
He was exceptional in his craft of acting...and they don't make men like him anymore...even in films.
