What do you think about the morning after pill going over the counter with doctors notes needed for teens under the age of 18? They are saying it will reduce unplanned pregnancy by half, but I think it is any easy way out for teens who aren't responsible. Do you think that with this there will be more unprotected sex and higher STD statistics?

It's another form of abortion... and yes, upprotected sex will go up. And I'm sure so will the STD rate. I think the morning after pill is just as wrong as any other form of abortion. Teens who aren't responsible enough for a baby, should be less stupid and use protection, then, there would be no need for the morning after pill...

Before they put any medication on the market, it is rigorously tested and studied. They have found that with Plan B, people who use it are not more likely to be promiscuous or have STDs, so it's really unlikely that those two things will increase. If anything, having Plan B over the counter will reduce the 3 MILLION unplanned pregnancies in the U.S. alone. I know lots of responsible people who have used Plan B, so your assumption that people who "aren't responsible" will use it is rooted in misinformation and stereotypes.

There are pro's and con's to this decision.
Bottom line, it will help prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Young teen girls should not be having sex, but they do...and many end up pregnant.
Too bad, because most are not ready for motherhood and the baby suffers in the end.
It would be helpful to provide access for these young girls, but I won't argue that point right now.

Regarding STD's - despite the literature out there, people of all ages still do stupid things.
The morning after pill will have minimal impact in this regard.

My only bone of contention are with those self-righteous pharmacists who will not carry or provide the pill to ANY woman, regardless of age.
This, to me, is wrong to deny women the help they need by imposing your own beliefs upon them.

The morning after pill is good for everyone, also teens. It helps, but what people don'r tell you is that you can only use it once, according to my doctor. If you use it more than once, you may face few unpleasant things when you decide to have a child one day. My advice to anyone playing with those pills is to be carefull.

Though you are correct in the thought that teens will feel more securely about having random sexual partners because of the "safe" feeling that the MAP gives them. At the same time for those of us who are adults, that from time to time make bad decisions, it is a nice security knowing that--if I ever needed it, it would be there.

Tastes great! Less filling!

Seriously: it's a good thing that it's available, but it should be expensive, because it really is a last resort, and not an alternative to condoms.

I THINK THEY SHOULD MAKE THE MORNING AFTER PILL AVAILABLE TO MEN, THEN THERE WOULD BE LESS FATHERLESS CHILDREN IN THIS SORRY WORLD.
