The answer is actually yes, if you use the new and free Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express.
VWD includes a Cassini (or Cassini-based, I don't remember which) web server, that allows you test the development on a computer with XP Home .

Actually, its not true that you can't install IIS on XP Home. Its just not a MS supported scenario. If you just google "Install IIS on XP Home, the first few should help you out. You can also use Visual Web Developer 2005 Express also, or there are a variety of web servers that emulate an IIS environment so that you can still test ASP.

Hi,
The answer is "Yes" you can, and I have done it; however, it is not that easy to setup. All the people who said no, are correct that you cannot run an a web app in XP home out of the box; however, Microsoft saw a need and created a product called
Cassini.
This product is similar to Microsoft's Personal Web Server if you remember that from the old days of NT. In any case, you can use this to create a web share and point Visual Sudio to that folder.
I have included a link which discusses cassini and gives instructions on how to set it up.
Good Luck,
Leo

Windows XP Home does not come with IIS. You have to download IIS for it. Only then you will be able to develop ASP Web app.
I have done it once. But you have to really search it well. Microsoft does not give IIS for XP Home. Somebody has come up with the settings needed. You will get it on the web.

Actually... the answers above are only partially correct. You can design ASP with any operating system. However, you are unable to test it without a server-side testing server set up (such as having IIS installed). The requirements for designing ASP can be as simple as using Notepad or as advanced as using Dreamweaver.
