I have an "inny" and I always wash this area with soap and water thoroughly. I always use a cotton bud, soaked in alcohol or cologne to clean the hard to get areas on the inside of my belly button after drying. Still I notice there are days when I stick my finger inside, there is this stickyness and for some reason this strange odor. It just doesnt smell clean, if you know what I mean. What am I doing wrong? I am so aware of it during lovemaking. I feel nervous and just dont like to be kissed down there anymore because of this odor that may be lurking there...Please help.

Use some neo-sporin. The odor is caused by bacteria living in your "inny". Dabbing a little neo-sporin a few times a week should kill the bacteria and the odor.

I also have an "inny" belly button and I have a daily regimen to keep it clean and odor free. I have also tried using an alcohol soaked cotton swab but it is much too irritating for my skin.

1. In the shower I use a sudsy shower pouf (plastic netting bunched up on a rope) wrapped over my finger to clean the area.
2. After showering I use a dry cotton swab to remove all the moisture from my belly button.
3. Under certain weather and humidity conditions and activity situations you may need to add the third step of applying Shower to Shower powder to the area. It contains baking soda to absorb odors and keep you dry.

This daily regimen has never failed me. I hope this method works for you!

Use tissue to wick out the water, after every bath/shower.
Also, a 50-50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water, on a washcloth, will help clean out the area.
Do not put sharp objects in to clean out your navel.
When all else fails, consult with a doctor...they can recommend tips for a clean umbilicus!

I have the same problem, but only around the time of my period when my hormones are going nuts. I dry it with a cotton swab, and then apply a thin layer of vaseline and that takes care of it. I think the alcohol and cologne will dry the skin, causing it to flake, and that with the warmth of your body heat can cause the odor.

take the pressure off of your belly button to be perfect. just keep it clean. relax. don't stick your finger in it, you're making it mad. i'm being serious. i used to do that and i know what you mean! just clean it when you shower and let it be!

It sounds like you are doing all you can do. I highly doubt that anyone but you notices it.

For those with a piercing ...hang an air freshener from it, it will serve two purposes.
