Well, if they don't make their own tires, then why does it say Harley-Davidson on them?

Really, let's not get technical on exact manufacturer. Jeez, the point is, it says HD on the tires...oh, jeez, just forget it.

Most of the time you'll be going fast enough that no one will notice.

You should be ok as long as you don't keep it parked at the bar.

Really, it's only considered blasphemy for a harley rider to have/use/wear anything that doesn't have harley on it - not so much the other way around!

I've never heard of any motorcycle manufacture making their own tires. Take a closer look at the tires for the brand name of the tire. Harley might just pay the tire manufacture to include Harley Davidson in the writing on the sidewall.

Not really.
Dunlops were the recommended tires on my Hondas.
If I remember the numbers correctly (and I may be wrong)
the major difference in the Harley labled tires are that they are a model that is no longer available.
In other words, a tire that became unavailable is now available, but only with the Harley name on it.

Waiting to be shot for my poor memory.

Kind of like the Harley Edition of Ford Trucks

No, Harley bikes have a certain percentage of Japanese parts on them. I used to be a 'Harley person' until I rode a Suzuki Intruder across the U.S. It costs a hell of a lot less than a Harley and did the very same thing with a lot less vibration.

(Firecracker) is correct. They are just Dunlop tires that are made for Harley. HD owners will pay extra for that little logo so Dunlop makes them.

What is blasphemy is riding worn out tires when you have the money to replace them.

If you want to pay the Harley price, that's your business. The great thing about this country is that you can fritter away your money however you see fit.

I buy Metzler tires for my Kawi. They've been good to me and don't cost for that little HD Shield emblem.

Its just a Dunlop 491, I have one on my Yamaha (the other wore out too fast so I got something else) Got them cheap, there is no way I would pay extra to have HD on the sidewalls (even though these had it)

LOL - I am not all on brand names, I have friend who has a custom Honda crusier that rivals ANY Harleys - You're paying for the name and reputation thats it.
