Technology obviously has tremendous benefits to humanity. But it also has huge costs-- both in terms of the malicious way it's used by some people and by the unintended bad consequences it sometimes has (e.g. global warming, drug side effects). And as our technological capabilities increase, the bad side of technology potentially becomes increasingly catostrophic. Therefore I think the best invention would be something that prevents bad uses or effects of other technology.
