In August of 2001 the United States economy was in a mild recession, and the prospect for airline profits in the near term was poor. (Businesses cut back on travel when the budget gets tight.) Institutional investors were busy shifting their money into stocks with a better growth potential.

It's funny you should mention this. I have a couple of friends that are big in investing and they trying to get me to invest in Put options. This was 2 months before 9/11. Why? It was because of the state of the airline industries.If I had had the funds at the time, I would have joined them.

I guess you watched that very laughable video "Loose Change", didn't you?
