It's not exactly rude, but it does convey a few other concepts. One of which is that all caps is somewhat harder to read as it doesn't allow for determination of sentence openings and proper nouns. Abbreviations are also lost in the mix.

The other thing is that all caps should be reserved to provide EMPHASIS on a particular word. This allows for a tone to be determined. All caps is like shouting at someone without being able to point out key parts of what they are saying.

I try not to take it as rude. I generally attribute it to a laziness or inexperience with typing. Rude would be what one says and how they say it, but not how one types it.

The reason some people consider it rude is because tone of voice cannot be expressed through typing. Therefore, writing a sentence comprised entirely of capital letters became associated as a method to indicate that one is yelling, screaming, or meaning to express a loud tone.

IF YOU COMPARE THIS TO WHAT I'VE JUST TYPED, IT DOES APPEAR THAT I AM "SCREAMING THIS AT YOU, DOESN'T IT?

Personally, I don't care whether a person is "screaming" or not. A sentence composed of nothing but capital letters is just annoying to read, and it indicates a poor level of grammar.

Were you taught to use only capital letters in school?

Yes, I suppose it could be considered rude. I type in all caps when I'm yelling at someone or strongly trying to make a point.

O i didn't know that. Tell you what though, i have a friend who suffers from bad eye sight so he writes in capitals but not out of rudeness, only so he can see what he writes, read what others write about! So maybe someone should allow for partially sighted people to do so without calling them rude!

I just did that too. Maybe because half of the questions were in caps and everyone was getting all mad about it.

I don't think it's rude at all as long as your not saying something mean. Some people do it so people look at there question or there excited not just because there mean?

I don't think it's rude, but it does give you the sense that the person may be yelling, even thought they're not.

Yes it's rude because it's considered to be like yelling.
