The study of psychopathic behaviour which is actually incurable. Drugs will not alter psychopathic tendencies or modify a persons behaviour, they could seem completely normal and have a relatively high IQ but just have no conscious or remorse about any acts of violence they commit. So it really is necessary to clearly define what type of mental illness people have.

Psychopathology is a term which refers to either;-

i) the study of mental illness or mental distress

ii) the manifestation of behaviours and experiences which may be indicative of mental illness or psychological impairment.

Advantages :

It helps establish a common vocabulary for medical professionals when referring to patients personal problems without being "too specific" - i.e. makes taking notes easier.

Disadvantages:

The terminology becomes the only way some psychologists can relate to their patients (i.e. treating a label instead of a person.)

I think it is essential to 'label,' according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
If somebody on the loose is described as being a 'psychopath' then the public need to know whether they are dangerous, as opposed to just being ill with say, schizophrenia.
