I have a pair of socks that I have to wear with my kilt. They're too big for me at the moment and I don't really have time to buy another pair before my friend's wedding tomorrow. How can I shrink them? They're 80% wool, 20% nylon. I've already washed them at 60 degrees. Don't know if it's made a difference but I still need to make them much smaller. Can anyone help me?

Suck them for a few days. (preferably before they have been worn!)

The thing that makes wool shrink is basically the fibres pulling together and getting tangled (that's how they make felt).
However, the purpose behind putting the nylon into a garment of any kind, is to prevent this from happening as nylon holds its shape well.

So short of boiling (and potentially ruining) them it might be a losing battle. Try washing and tumble-drying them again - or just wear 'em too big! Can you send another pal out to buy you a smaller pair? It'll probably be less hassle in the end.

Tumble dry, if you dont have a tumble dryer put them in boiling water from the kettle. This should shrink them but keep an eye on them they may become tiny!
Have fun at the wedding!

For Socks with that much wool in them, simply wash them in Hot water and dry using high heat.

After you wash, throw them in the dryer a few times at normal heat level, and they should shrink. :)
