I have read many of those as well! BIG Laurell K Hamilton fan:). Also have one by Kim Harrison and have heard of Charlaine Harris...Found a few new ones though...Check them out...Susan Sizemore (I read I Hunger For You), Lynn Viehl (The Darkyn series-I read Dark Need-wasn't too terribly fond of this one though, too many characters, guess you need to read the first in the series first:)) and Lora Leigh-Megan's Mark (This one was great!)) They have some great stuff! Lora Leigh is alot like Laurell I have found. Susan Sizemore had me wanting to read more, and Lynn's was just so-so. Drop me an email if you want to keep chatting about this stuff!:)

If you don't mind reading YA there are some great books out there. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a great book. One of the best I've ever read. The sequel New Moon has just been released as well. Twilight focuses on a 'normal' teen girl Bella and her vampire boyfriend Edward. New Moon focuses on Bella, her complex relationship with Edward, and her growing friendship with Jacob, a werewolf. I highly recommend both books. There will be more in the series.
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray is another good YA choice. It focuses on a girl--or group of girls--in a boarding school in England in 1895 who explore an ancient Order and learn magic and visit supernatural realms sometimes with unintended results. There was a sequel to that book as well which I haven't read yet so the title isn't coming to mind.

Lynsey Sands - her books have something of the same tone as the MJD's.
Stephen Spruill - Lords of Light, Daughter of Darkness, Rulers of Darkness.
Robin McKinley - Sunshine. A meltingly good read!
Shannon Drake
Wilderness by Dennis Danvers
Lori Handeland.

Neil Gaiman - Stardust, Good Omens, (can't remember the rest, but they're really really good!)
Christopher Moore - EVERY BOOK
Clive Barker - Cabal, The Great & Secret Show

Try Kelly Armstrong's books. She's written a series called Women of the Otherworld. The main characters are werewolves and witches.

-My favorite is Sherrilyn Kenyon- has a series about vampires, magic, were-animals, etc.
-Lori Handeland- werewolves (werewolves are portrayed as evil, I'm so not sure you'll like these books)
-Kay Hooper has a series about physics, mediums, etc. who work for the FBI
-Karen Chance- Touch the Dark (a new author, her first book I think). I haven't read this yet, but it looks good.

Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. I generally hate the vampire genre, but I loved that book.
